ENCRYPT Project at GLACIATION Dissemination Event: Privacy-Preserving Technologies in Smart Environments

On October 10th, Marco Bassini spoke at the GLACIATION Horizon funded project dissemination event, hosted by Leibniz University Hannover.

Presenting on the panel “Harmonizing Privacy-Preservation and Interoperability in Smart Environments”, in his talk, Marco touched upon the main challenges facing the implementation of privacy-preserving technologies and how the ENCRYPT platform aims to develop a practical and scalable privacy-preserving framework that fully exploits their potential.

He also focused on the three use cases in which the ENCRYPT platform is being deployed to capture the existing similarities with smart environments, including the legal issues relevant to them, such as the role of the state and public authorities and their ability to access and control data.

Marco also illustrated how the ENCRYPT project aims to maximize the potential of privacy-preserving technologies in a data-driven economy, also in light of existing (e.g. the anonymization vs. pseudonymization dilemma) and upcoming (the AI Act, establishing requirements for data governance and cybersecurity) legal challenges.
